New Chief of Police in Ferndale to start in July

The City of Ferndale has officially appointed Sean O’Laughlin as the new chief of police, with his start date set for July 2. O’Laughlin, currently the deputy chief of police at Eastern Washington University, brings a wealth of experience, particularly from his military service in the U. S. Coast Guard Reserve, where he oversees a unit of 105 personnel. His diverse background in crisis management and law enforcement was a crucial factor in the city’s decision to select him for this role.

O’Laughlin will be replacing Kevin Turner, who left the position after eight years to serve as police chief in Burlington. This transition is significant for Ferndale as it seeks to maintain stability within its police department. The city has expressed confidence in O’Laughlin’s ability to lead effectively and address community needs. Meanwhile, former Lt. Matt Huffman will continue to serve as the interim chief until O’Laughlin officially assumes his duties.
