Bellingham International Airport searching for new director of aviation Cascadia Daily News

Bellingham, WALocal News

Bellingham International Airport is on the lookout for a new director of aviation, a move prompted by the recent termination of the previous director due to financial issues. The Port of Bellingham made the announcement on social media, emphasizing the need for a proactive leader who can manage daily airport operations and drive growth. The job offers a competitive salary range of $145,700 to $208,200, depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience. The airport has been facing significant challenges since Southwest Airlines announced it would be ending its service in August 2024, citing aircraft shortages and revenue challenges. This decision had a profound impact, as the airline had contributed over $5 million in revenue from 2021 to 2023.

Kip Turner, the former aviation director, was let go shortly after this announcement, and his deputy also resigned soon after. Currently, Rob Fix, the port's executive director, is managing the airport's operations in an interim role. With the first review of applications set for March 3, the urgency for appointing a new director is evident as the airport seeks to restore air service and attract airlines to establish new routes.
