Skagit Habitat for Humanity receives 1.1M to construct affordable homes

Bellingham, WALocal News

Skagit Habitat for Humanity has announced the receipt of $1. 1 million in funding from the Washington State Housing Trust, aimed at constructing 11 affordable homes in La Conner and Anacortes. This financial support will facilitate two distinct projects: the three-home development on Caledonia Street in La Conner and the eight-home Parkside Cottages project located off 29th Street in Anacortes. Currently, the Anacortes project is under construction, with an anticipated completion date of August 1, according to CEO Tina Tate. The La Conner project is expected to commence construction in February, targeting completion by the end of the year.

These housing developments are integral to the Habitat Homebuyer Program, which provides opportunities for families and individuals earning between 70% and 80% of the Area Median Income to build and purchase homes. The Department of Commerce's recent announcement includes a broader investment of $17. 95 million across 17 projects, facilitating affordable homeownership for 168 low-income households throughout the state. This funding initiative underscores the pressing need for affordable housing solutions in Washington. With the ongoing support from local organizations and state programs, communities can look forward to increased access to homeownership opportunities.
