Severe Weather Shelter in Bellingham opens doors this weekend

Bellingham’s Severe Weather Shelter is set to open this weekend, November 29 and 30, for the first time this season. According to Whatcom County, the shelter may remain open on Monday based on weather conditions. Located at 925 N. Forest St. , the shelter will accept guests from 4 p.

m. to 8 p. m. and provide meals for those staying overnight. Space is limited, with a capacity for up to 60 individuals each night, and accommodations are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

This program is essential as it operates when temperatures drop to freezing or during other severe weather events, providing a safe haven for the homeless and vulnerable individuals.
