Mt. Baker Imaging responds to cyberattack nine months after it occurred

Bellingham, WALocal News

Mt. Baker Imaging (MBI) confirmed a data breach impacting over 348,000 Washington residents, revealing sensitive personal information. The cyberattack occurred in late January, affecting data such as social security numbers and diagnosis details. MBI assured the public that there is no evidence of the compromised information being used for malicious purposes. In response, the medical center has enhanced its security measures and established a dedicated call center to assist patients.

Two local residents have since filed lawsuits against MBI and Northwest Radiologists, alleging they failed to adequately inform patients about the breach. This incident underscores the vulnerabilities within the healthcare sector regarding data security. Legal action may prompt stronger regulations on how medical facilities communicate about data breaches. The breach serves as a critical reminder for healthcare providers to prioritize cybersecurity and patient communication.
