Two people arrested after car chase ending in Bellingham

Two suspects were arrested in Bellingham after a reckless car chase that began late Thursday near E. Kellogg Road. Police Lt. Claudia Murphy indicated that officers monitored the vehicle from a distance due to its unsafe speeds. The driver, a 40-year-old male, was caught when he ran in front of a patrol car, while his 36-year-old female passenger was discovered hiding in nearby blackberry bushes.

The passenger was taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center with a broken vertebra. Both individuals have active warrants from California and are held at Whatcom County Jail. This incident raises concerns about public safety and the risks associated with high-speed pursuits. Law enforcement agencies frequently evaluate their pursuit policies to balance safety with effective crime prevention.
