Swinomish Tribe expands their wellness service in Bellingham
The didgʷálič Wellness Center expands its mobile services in Bellingham with a second vehicle beginning November 10, targeting individuals struggling with substance abuse. The new unit will operate from the parking lot of First Baptist Church, located at the intersection of Flora and Unity Streets. The existing mobile unit has been offering comprehensive services six days a week at the Anne Deacon Center of Hope since late January, providing care for mental and physical health, dental work, and essential social services. This expansion is part of a collaboration between the Swinomish Tribe, Whatcom County, and the City of Bellingham, aimed at improving access to wellness resources for residents. The initiative responds to the growing need for such services in the area, especially amid increasing substance-related challenges.
The Swinomish Tribe's commitment to community health underscores the importance of culturally sensitive and accessible care. Local officials express optimism about the positive impact these mobile units will have on individuals in need. Enhanced mobile wellness services reflect a proactive approach to addressing public health challenges in Bellingham.
