Wind advisory issued for western Whatcom, Skagit Counties

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for western Whatcom and Skagit Counties, as well as San Juan County, due to forecasted southeast winds of 15-25 mph and gusts reaching up to 45 mph near the coast. Travelers are warned to be on the lookout for debris, such as tree branches, that may obstruct roadways. Meanwhile, a winter storm warning is in effect for the North Cascades until 10 a. m. tomorrow, with Mount Baker expected to receive between 1-2 feet of snow.

The North Cascades Highway could accumulate 8-12 inches, complicating travel in the region. Washington state recently legalized the use of studded tires, and chains are mandated on all mountain passes. Local authorities urge caution for drivers traversing these areas due to severe weather conditions. These advisories highlight the winter challenges faced by residents and travelers in the region. Weather conditions are expected to persist throughout the evening, affecting local travel.
