Winter weather advisory issued for Cascades including Whatcom, Skagit Counties

Bellingham, WALocal News

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Whatcom and Skagit counties, effective Wednesday at 4 p. m. and continuing through Friday morning. Forecasters anticipate snowfall between 4 to 8 inches along the Cascade crest and higher points of Highway 20, with Mount Baker potentially receiving 8 to 10 inches. Travelers are urged to slow down and use caution due to difficult travel conditions.

WSDOT has announced that studded tires are permitted until March 31, though they do not satisfy state chain requirements. Drivers must install chains on front-wheel and rear-wheel drive vehicles if a chains-required sign is posted. To ensure safety, State Patrol will commence emphasis patrols to monitor compliance with chain laws in the mountain passes. The advisory serves as a critical reminder of the challenges posed by winter weather in the region. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and prepare adequately for travel in snowy conditions.
