Skagit County names new director of public health

Bellingham, WALocal News

Skagit County appointed Monica Negrila as its new director of public health on October 27, 2025, following her previous role in strategic initiatives within the Commissioner’s Office. Negrila played a key role in developing North Star, a public-private partnership launched in 2022 to combat behavioral health and homelessness issues in the area. Lisa Janicki, Chair of the Board of County Commissioners, commended Negrila for her leadership on these pressing local matters. This appointment comes shortly after Whatcom County announced Champ Thomaskutty as its new health director, who will take over at the end of the month. Negrila's six years of experience in health and human services for the City of Issaquah further strengthens her qualifications for this role.

The transition in public health leadership in both counties signals a renewed focus on addressing community health challenges. Negrila's leadership will be crucial in navigating ongoing behavioral health crises. The community expects significant improvements in public health initiatives under her direction.
