Whatcom County residents can soon learn more about new jail in Ferndale

Bellingham, WALocal News

Whatcom County will hold a community engagement workshop on November 20 to inform residents about the new jail and behavioral health center being developed in Ferndale. The design team will provide updates and solicit public input on the services and design of the facilities. Last month, the county selected a mix of four local and national firms, including Bellingham-based RMC Architects and RAM Construction, to lead the project. A new website has been launched to keep residents informed about the progress of the Justice Project. Construction is slated to begin in 2026, with the facilities expected to be completed by summer 2028.

This project aims to improve the local justice system and better serve the community's behavioral health needs. The workshop will take place at the Pioneer Pavilion Community Center from 6-8 p. m. Residents are encouraged to participate to ensure their priorities are considered in the design process.
