He later stated he had a "change of heart" and transported her to the hospital after the attack. A jury found him guilty of attempted murder after a four-day trial, highlighting the severity of the domestic violence incident. Dubois had been under the influence of methamphetamine and other drugs during the assault.

His sentencing reflects a growing concern over domestic violence in the Blaine area.
