Whatcom County sees largest drop in home prices since 2023

Bellingham, WALocal News

Whatcom County's home prices have dropped over four percent this summer, with the median price now just below $624,000. This decline is the largest seen in two years, according to a report by broker Adrik Brashear from the Muljat Group. Prices fell across most areas, with exceptions in Nooksack Valley and Sudden Valley, where sales increased. Conversely, Ferndale and Mount Baker experienced a slump in home sales. Brashear predicts that a combination of declining prices, higher inventory, and lower interest rates will attract more buyers this fall and winter.

Historically, the county's housing market has shown resilience, but current trends indicate a shift towards a buyer-friendly environment. The increase in inventory could further stimulate competition among sellers. These dynamics may significantly impact local homeownership opportunities in the coming months.
