David Wight Glass Artist

Bellingham glass artist David Wight produces about 1,000 sculptures annually, with his works featured on Norwegian Cruise Lines and in galleries nationwide. His artistic journey was ignited by a transformative experience at a waterfall in Dominica, inspiring him to create pieces that reflect water's beauty. Initially, he traveled to Seattle for work due to the lack of resources in Bellingham but moved his operations back home in the late 2010s. Wight teaches at the former glassblowing space of Western Washington University, where he also continues to create his art. He emphasizes personal involvement in crafting each piece, despite having a team of skilled glass sculptors.

Wight opened his own gallery to better control the presentation of his work but found it challenging to juggle gallery management and sculpture creation. His dedication to making every piece himself, while not the most efficient business decision, brings him joy and pride. This commitment to craftsmanship ensures that each sculpture not only represents his artistic vision but also offers a therapeutic experience to those who appreciate his work.
