Woman injured following crash off I-5 in Ferndale

Bellingham, WALocal News

An Everett woman suffered serious injuries in a two-car crash off I-5 in Ferndale on Wednesday at approximately 8:45 a. m. The collision occurred when a pickup truck driver failed to negotiate a curve on the northbound on-ramp from Main Street, causing the vehicle to go airborne and crash into a Nissan. The 54-year-old driver of the Nissan was taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Five occupants in the pickup, including two children aged 5 and 7, refused medical aid at the scene. Washington State Patrol Trooper Brad Tulloch confirmed that the pickup driver, a resident of Bellingham, was not impaired at the time of the accident. However, authorities indicated that the driver could face vehicular assault charges as the investigation is ongoing. This incident highlights the potential dangers of failing to navigate road curves safely. Local traffic safety advocates may call for increased awareness and precautions on highway ramps following this event.
