Washington State Patrol is investigating an alleged assault on a ferry from San Juan Island to Anacortes that occurred on August 21. A woman reported that a man, identified as a 70-year-old from Orcas Island, struck her neck after her cart accidentally bumped into his leg. She followed him to capture video evidence before he left the scene. The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the incident happened outside their jurisdiction, leading to the involvement of State Patrol. Authorities urge witnesses to contact Trooper Nicholas Haag at 425-508-3222 to provide any information.

Such incidents raise concerns about passenger safety on Washington State Ferries, which serve as vital transportation links for residents and visitors. The ferry system, crucial for connecting islands, has faced scrutiny over safety protocols in the past.
