Section of Mount Baker Highway to close for Mt. Baker Hill Climb race

The 2025 Mt. Baker Hill Climb will result in a closure of Highway 542 for cyclists on Sunday, September 14, from 7 a. m. to 12 p. m.

Whatcom County Public Works urges drivers to avoid the race course during this period. The event starts at Snowater Road near Chair 9 and covers 22. 4 miles, featuring a notable elevation gain of 4,482 feet as it rises to Artist Point on Mount Baker. Approximately 450 participants are expected to take part, showcasing the race's popularity; it sold out in June. In 2024, the race's first-place finisher achieved a time of 1:22:41, demonstrating the competitive nature of the event.
