Perry Fire continues to burn over 1,500 acres on west side of Ross Lake
The Perry Fire, sparked by lightning in late August, has burned approximately 1,557 acres on the west side of Ross Lake. Firefighters struggled with adverse smoke conditions due to a smoke inversion, which hindered aerial operations and water drops over the weekend. To enhance firefighting efforts, at least two helicopters were deployed, and boat crews focused on protecting structures within the Little Beaver and Silver Creek Campgrounds. Fortunately, forecasts indicate cooling temperatures in the North Cascades, leading to improved smoke conditions. Local fire officials emphasize the importance of these efforts in preserving recreational areas for visitors.
The National Parks Service reported that the smoke inversion caused stagnant conditions, complicating firefighting strategies. As crews continue to battle the blaze, their actions are crucial to preventing further damage to the surrounding environment. Continued monitoring and support will be essential as the situation evolves.
