Water adjudication informational meeting for Lynden residents planned for September

Whatcom County Superior Court will host a traveling court session on September 8 at 9 a. m. in Lynden to update residents on the water adjudication process. This session will feature a monthly status update from the adjudication Steering Committee, comprising various local stakeholders. After the court proceedings, community members can attend a session at the Lynden Senior Center from 1-3 p.

m. to gain insights into the adjudication process and ask questions of state and local officials. The adjudication aims to legally determine water rights for the Nooksack River Basin, a significant undertaking affecting numerous landowners. The state Department of Ecology initiated this process by distributing claim forms to local landowners in March. This meeting serves to inform residents about their rights and the implications of the adjudication.

Engaging the community in this process is essential to ensure transparency and understanding.
