Bellinghams newest tiny home village opens to the public
Bellingham's North Haven Tiny Home Community, which opened recently, consists of 19 new homes along with 23 units relocated from Unity Village. The grand opening occurred on Tuesday, and residents began moving in as early as May. HomesNOW! , a nonprofit organization primarily run by volunteers, completed the village after a five-month construction period. Chairman Doug Gustafson emphasized the organization's future plans to build additional communities to help house more people experiencing homelessness.
The City of Bellingham acquired the site in April 2024, previously occupied by North Coast Credit Union. This tiny home village represents a significant step in addressing the local homelessness crisis. Gustafson's commitment to expanding these efforts showcases the community's proactive approach to housing solutions. The initiative not only provides immediate shelter but also aims to create more sustainable living options for vulnerable populations.
