UPDATE Whatcom County Sheriffs Office searches for suspect after reported assault at Little Squalicum Park

Local authorities in Bellingham, WA, are investigating a sexual assault and robbery that took place on the trail system at Little Squalicum Park on Wednesday morning. The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office reported the assault occurred between 7 a. m. and 9 a. m.

, leading to an extensive search that included local agencies and a K-9 unit, but the suspect remains at large. They describe the suspect as a heavyset male in his 30s to 40s, approximately 6 feet tall, with dark, curly, frizzy hair in a ponytail and a beard, wearing brown pants and a tan jacket. During the investigation, Bellingham Technical College enacted a lock-down protocol to ensure student safety, which lasted until 11:30 a. m. The college has since lifted the protocol, and the park area is now open for public use.
