Ferndale City Council approves contract to upgrade City Hall

Bellingham, WALocal News

Ferndale City Council approved a contract with Dawson Construction on August 18 for a significant upgrade to City Hall. The new Civic Campus will consist of a two-story, 19,000-square-foot facility located between the current City Hall and the Ferndale Public Library. It will accommodate city council chambers, a municipal court, and administrative offices, while the existing City Hall will transition to professional office space for local nonprofits, including the Chamber of Commerce. Mayor Hansen emphasized that this project represents a long-term investment in public access and efficiency, stating, "With the support of our state and federal partners, we are delivering a long-term investment in public access, transparency, and efficiency. " Construction is scheduled to commence this fall, aiming to enhance the city’s infrastructure and service capabilities.

The current City Hall is deemed undersized for its operations, prompting this upgrade to better serve the community. This initiative reflects the city's commitment to modernizing its facilities to meet growing demands. The completion of the Civic Campus is expected to foster collaboration among various community organizations.
