Bellingham, WALocal News

Vaughn Hagen, a respected accountant in Bellingham, was fatally shot on August 6 while assisting with the estate of the home's owner. Donald Malone, 61, turned himself in to law enforcement the day following the shooting. Hagen had offered Malone a ride to the house, but Malone declined and returned on his bicycle. After seeing Hagen arrive in a U-Haul, Malone shot him several times without warning. Malone admitted to detectives that he disliked Hagen but did not provide any justification for his feelings.

The incident raises concerns over the safety of individuals involved in estate management. Malone was arraigned in Whatcom County Superior Court on Friday and could face life imprisonment for the murder. This case highlights the potential for conflict that can arise during estate settlements.
