Bellingham, WALocal News

Washington state has launched a free LGBTQ Business Enterprise program to aid LGBTQ-owned businesses. Governor Bob Ferguson announced the initiative, which aims to connect eligible business owners with valuable government contracts. The Office of Minority and Women’s Business Enterprises (OMWBE) will begin tracking spending with LGBTQ-owned firms starting in 2026. Director Lekha Fernandes highlighted that Washington is one of the first states to adopt this program, marking a significant move toward equity in public spending. To be eligible, LGBTQ+ individuals must own at least 51% of the business, manage its daily operations, and meet certain financial criteria.

This initiative is expected to enhance opportunities for LGBTQ entrepreneurs and promote diversity within state contracts. The program reflects an ongoing effort to address disparities in public sector spending. Interested business owners can find application details on the OMWBE website.
