Jesus Penuelas-Agramon, 23, pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and drug-related charges after allegedly shooting a Lummi police officer seven times on July 28. The officer was investigating a vehicle that had driven into a ditch at the time of the incident. Court documents indicate that Penuelas-Agramon was already under investigation for drug activities before the shooting. The officer, who remains unnamed, is recovering well, and Lummi Nation Police report that he is making great progress in his rehabilitation. Community support has been strong, with over $25,000 raised for the officer’s family through a fundraising dinner and a donation fund.

Penuelas-Agramon faces a status hearing set for August 27, and his trial is scheduled to begin on September 22. The case highlights ongoing concerns about violence against law enforcement and drug-related crime in the region. The actions of local residents in supporting the injured officer reflect a strong community bond during this challenging time.
