Bellingham, WALocal News

Maureen Sullivan, co-Maestro of the Subdued Stringband Jamboree, brings her artistic flair to the festival's art department, which celebrates local music and creativity for nearly 25 years. Scheduled for August 7-9 at the Deming Log Show Fairgrounds, the festival features diverse performances and activities for attendees. Sullivan, who has lived in cities like Spokane and New York, cherishes the community spirit at the Jamboree, where she organizes volunteers and oversees preparations. Her co-Maestro, Ani Banani, admires Sullivan's innovative ideas, contrasting her own structured approach to festival branding. Pre-production for the event requires extensive planning, including building sets and sourcing materials, with this year's focus on recycled aluminum cans.

The décor team benefits from a dedicated workspace at a Paper Whale warehouse, enhancing their creative process. Sullivan emphasizes that the festival fosters a sense of belonging, allowing attendees to escape daily routines and enjoy music and camaraderie. The festival ultimately strives to create a joyful experience, reinforcing the importance of community engagement in the arts.
