Man accused of shooting Lummi Police Officer had prior drug charges filed against him

Jesus Penuelas-Agramon, 23, faces charges for allegedly shooting a Lummi Police Officer and has a notable history of drug-related offenses. At the time of his arrest on July 28, he was under investigation by the Whatcom Regional Drug Task Force for drug activities. Officers conducted three controlled purchases of fentanyl-laced powder from him, indicating his involvement in serious drug trafficking. Following a search warrant execution at his residence, authorities confiscated over $9,200 in cash bundles, although no narcotics were found. Investigators also discovered documents suggesting money transfers to Sinaloa, Mexico, associated with Penuelas-Agramon's alias.

The shooting incident has raised community concerns about drug-related violence and police safety. Local authorities are expected to address these issues during the upcoming arraignment. Penuelas-Agramon is scheduled to appear in court on August 8.
