AG Nick Brown joins multi-state lawsuit against Trump administrations block of Planned Parenthood Medicaid funding

Bellingham, WALocal News

Washington Attorney General Nick Brown joined 24 states in a lawsuit against the Trump administration for blocking Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood. The AG's office claims that this provision in Congressional budget legislation prevents reimbursements for essential healthcare services provided by Planned Parenthood facilities. Nearly half of all patients at Planned Parenthood utilize Medicaid, making the policy a significant concern for low-income residents. The coalition of states argues that this sweeping policy is a direct attack on low-income Americans. In a separate action, Brown also signed onto a lawsuit challenging the administration's demands for access to SNAP recipients' personal data, which 21 states argue violates multiple federal privacy laws.

The states assert that these demands exceed USDA authority and breach the U. S. Constitution. Local advocates emphasize that these legal actions are crucial for protecting vulnerable populations in Washington. Brown's efforts highlight ongoing tensions between state officials and the federal government regarding healthcare access and privacy rights.
