Lummi Nation Officer shot, suspect at large

A Lummi Nation Police officer was shot multiple times while responding to a vehicle incident early on July 28 in Bellingham, WA. The officer approached a car that had driven into a ditch, whereupon the unidentified suspect opened fire and fled the scene. Local agencies responded by shutting down several roads to search for the suspect, who remains at large. The injured officer has undergone surgery, but their current condition remains unknown. In reaction to the shooting, the Lummi Indian Business Council will close its offices until further notice.

Lummi Nation Chair Anthony Hillaire stated, “Our hearts are heavy today,” emphasizing the need for community solidarity during this crisis. The incident underscores the risks faced by law enforcement in the area and the community's collective response to such violence. Authorities have not released any information regarding the suspect at this time.
