Bellingham, WALocal News

Bryan Kohberger was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the brutal stabbing of four University of Idaho students in November 2022. Judge Steven Hippler delivered the sentence, calling Kohberger “the worst of the worst” due to his lack of remorse. Families of the victims, including Kaylee Goncalves's brother, expressed deep sorrow and criticized the plea deal that allowed Kohberger to avoid trial. They pledged to continue advocating for victims' rights in similar cases. Surviving roommate Dylan Mortenson described the profound loss of her friends, stating, “He didn’t just take them from the world, he took them from me.

” In addition to the life sentences, Kohberger received a 10-year sentence for burglary and incurred $270,000 in fines. Kohberger has waived his right to appeal the sentences. The case has drawn significant media attention and raised discussions about the criminal justice system's handling of plea deals.
