Bellingham City Council to discuss new development in Barkley Village
Bellingham City Council will hold public hearings on the development of Barkley’s Urban Village on Monday night. The Talbot Group aims to rezone the area for mixed use, proposing a central core with a maximum height of eight stories and preserved open space. One of the hearings will address adherence to the Environmental Policy Act, ensuring environmental considerations are met. Senior Planner Darby Galligan highlighted that the project intends to bring valuable resources, including a library and recycling facilities, to the community. The meeting will occur at 7 p.
m. in City Hall’s council chambers, allowing community members to voice their opinions. Enhancing local resources could significantly benefit residents, addressing both recreational and practical needs. The proposed development reflects a shift towards urbanization in Bellingham, with potential long-term implications for city planning and resource allocation. Community engagement in these hearings is crucial for shaping the future of Barkley’s Urban Village.
