Portion of South Bay Trail in Bellingham to close for 18 months

Bellingham, WALocal News

Bellingham’s South Bay Trail will close for about 18 months to facilitate the construction of the Fairhaven Center, which will create three buildings with 200 residential units and commercial space. The site, currently a dirt parking area known as “the pit,” will also include 80 public parking spaces in a private garage. A detour will be implemented to ensure access between Taylor Dock and Fairhaven during the trail’s closure. This trail serves as an essential recreational route for the community, highlighting the importance of maintaining alternative pathways during construction. The city commits to re-establishing the trail upon project completion, aiming to minimize disruptions to local outdoor activities.

The Fairhaven Center represents a significant investment in Bellingham's housing and commercial development, addressing community needs. This move is expected to boost the local economy by providing more residential options and commercial opportunities. The project reflects ongoing efforts to enhance urban infrastructure in Bellingham.
