Oregon Rep. Maxine Dexter visits ICE facility in Ferndale

Bellingham, WALocal News

Rep. Maxine Dexter visited an ICE Detention Center in Ferndale, WA, to assist a Honduran mother and her four U. S. citizen children, who have been detained for nearly two weeks. The family has been cut off from the outside world and denied legal representation.

Dexter revealed that the mother is pursuing an alternative visa and has pending immigration documents. Two other relatives were later detained and moved to the NW Detention Center in Tacoma. Customs and Border Protection accused the mother of smuggling, but Dexter and the family’s attorney have been unable to confirm this claim. They have repeatedly requested documentation from CBP, highlighting a lack of transparency. Rep.

Rick Larsen is working with Dexter to uncover more details about the detention. The situation underscores ongoing concerns regarding ICE practices and the treatment of families in detention.
