Large-scale training drills to be held at Vista Middle School in Ferndale

Law enforcement will conduct training drills at Vista Middle School in Ferndale on July 9 and 10, focusing on responses to mass shootings. Whatcom County Fire District 7 is organizing the exercises to ensure effective emergency response capabilities. Residents in the vicinity are asked not to call 911 if they hear gunfire between 1-4 p. m. on those days.

Concerns from the community arose after a previous SWAT training at Ferndale High School took place while classes were in session. The drills serve as a vital component of local emergency preparedness, emphasizing the need for readiness in the face of potential crises. An additional training session is scheduled for July 24, reflecting a commitment to continuous improvement in public safety measures.
