The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Funding Board has awarded over $2 million to Whatcom County to enhance outdoor recreation as part of a statewide funding initiative totaling over $148 million. This allocation will support at least 14 projects, including safety materials for mountain bikers at Galbraith and improvements to the Lynden Shotgun Club. The funding will also aid in maintaining county trails, preserving land, and developing a new park in Birch Bay. Megan Duffy, director of the Recreation and Conservation Office, highlighted the crucial role of these grants in fostering community development and outdoor activities. "These grants are critical to keeping Washington a premier destination for outdoor adventure," Duffy noted.

The initiative aims to improve accessibility and safety in outdoor environments, benefiting both locals and visitors. Additionally, nearly 60% of grant applicants across the state successfully secured funding, reflecting strong community engagement in outdoor recreation projects. This funding represents a significant investment in Washington's outdoor infrastructure, ensuring long-term benefits for residents and outdoor enthusiasts.
