Green Jobs PAC fined thousands of dollars for not disclosing campaign spending in 2024 election

Bellingham, WALocal News

Green Jobs PAC has been penalized with a $20,000 fine by the Washington state Public Disclosure Commission for not properly reporting over $1 million in spending during the 2024 election. The PAC campaigned against Initiative 2117, which sought to repeal the state's Climate Commitment Act that regulates air pollution allowances. The unreported expenditures accounted for more than a third of the PAC's total campaign spending. The commission highlighted that the late filings denied voters important information just before the election. Although the PAC admitted to several violations of disclosure laws, regulators found no intent to deceive.

This situation underscores the necessity for transparency in political financing and compliance with state regulations. The fine reflects the importance of timely reporting for maintaining public trust in electoral processes. Similar cases could prompt further scrutiny of campaign finance practices in Washington.
