6th WA measles case of 2025 confirmed in King County adult

Bellevue, WALocal News

A sixth measles case in Washington state was confirmed in a King County adult who was infectious at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Overlake Medical Center. This individual likely contracted the virus during international travel, and their vaccination status is currently unknown. Public Health – Seattle & King County clarified that this case is not connected to earlier measles cases reported in the area. The agency provided detailed timelines of the individual's visits, noting the potential for airborne transmission of measles. Although the general public's risk is low due to widespread immunity, anyone who visited the listed locations is urged to verify their vaccination status.

Symptoms such as fever or rash could appear in those exposed between May 24 and June 8. Meagan Kay, a Medical Epidemiologist, emphasized the importance of being up to date on vaccinations, particularly for international travel. More information on measles and vaccination can be found on the Public Health website.
