Bellevue woman mourns husband killed in deadly North Cascades climbing accident

Bellevue, WALocal News

Olga Martynenko is grappling with the death of her husband, Alex, who tragically died in a climbing accident in the North Cascades. The accident also claimed the lives of two other King County men. Alex, 36, had developed a deep love for climbing and began pursuing it professionally just a year before his death. The couple emigrated from Ukraine six years ago and had settled in Bellevue, where they raised their young son, Daniel. Olga received a final text from Alex, expressing love for her and their son, just before the accident occurred.

After tracking his climb and noticing a stall, she was devastated to learn of his death when police arrived on Mother's Day. Friends have organized an online fundraiser to assist with funeral expenses and support for Daniel. Olga remembers Alex as a bright, responsible man dedicated to making the world a better place.
