Council Roundup Finalists selected for upcoming council vacancy

The Bellevue City Council is in the process of filling a vacancy left by councilmember Janice Zahn, who will vacate her seat on March 28 after being appointed to the State Legislature. The council has selected five finalists from 20 applicants, who will be interviewed next week on their perspectives about city governance and pressing local issues. The finalists include Jaskaran Singh Sarao, Claire Sumadiwirya, Diala Ezzeddine, Eric Drever, and Vishal Bhargava. The council aims to appoint a candidate by April, with the position lasting until after the November General Election. In addition to the appointment discussions, the council unanimously endorsed an updated budget and scope for the Grand Connection Crossing project, which is set to improve pedestrian and cyclist access over Interstate 405.

This bridge is projected to be finished by 2030 and will connect key local trails and public transportation lines. The council also celebrated Nowruz, highlighting the cultural diversity of Bellevue. The combination of these events underscores the council's commitment to addressing both governance and community engagement.
