Hot spell forecast for region

Bellevue, WALocal News

The National Weather Service has forecasted a significant heat wave for the Puget Sound region from July 7 to July 9, with temperatures expected to rise into the upper 80s and potentially exceed 90 degrees early next week. While not as extreme as the over 100-degree temperatures affecting California, this heat presents serious health risks, especially for vulnerable groups such as infants, seniors, and individuals with chronic health issues. In response to these conditions, the King County Regional Homelessness Authority has implemented a heat activation plan, providing a list of public cooling spaces and safety tips for residents. Essential advice for coping with the heat includes staying hydrated, utilizing shade, and applying high-SPF sunscreen. Local swimming facilities offer lifeguard services daily, and water spray parks provide cooling options for children.

The National Weather Service also cautions about increased fire risks due to high temperatures and low humidity levels during this period. Residents are encouraged to explore alternative locations such as malls or libraries if they lack air conditioning. Taking proactive measures can help ensure safety and well-being during the upcoming heat wave.
