Council approves 20-year Comprehensive Plan update

The Bellevue City Council has officially approved an update to the Comprehensive Plan, which will steer the city's growth and development from 2024 to 2044. The updated plan anticipates the addition of 35,000 housing units and 70,000 jobs, with a strong focus on transit-oriented development in areas like Wilburton and BelRed. Mayor Lynne Robinson expressed pride in the plan’s commitment to equity and housing affordability, aiming to ensure a high quality of life for all Bellevue residents. Furthermore, the plan incorporates climate-focused strategies to comply with new state regulations, addressing critical issues related to transportation and land use codes in the context of climate change. Brady Nordstrom from the Housing Development Consortium emphasized the collaborative effort behind the plan, highlighting its potential to enhance accessibility and affordability in the city.

The Planning Commission's endorsement and extensive community outreach over two and a half years reflect the plan’s alignment with state, regional, and county requirements. Bellevue's innovative approach has also earned it a Vision 2050 Award, recognizing its commitment to community engagement.
