Council funds affordable housing through ARCH, Housing Stability Program

Bellevue, WALocal News

The Bellevue City Council has unanimously approved a total of $1,810,900 for two affordable housing projects aimed at addressing the needs of low-income residents, particularly those earning between 30-80% of the area median income. The first project, the Larus Senior Housing, will receive $1,432,000 to develop 175 units for seniors, while the Aventine Apartments will benefit from $378,000 to support veterans and families experiencing homelessness. In addition, the council allocated $1,643,748 to the Amani Home, a transitional housing initiative that will provide vital support to refugee families and single-parent households. This project will include an onsite case manager to deliver culturally and linguistically appropriate services, emphasizing Bellevue's commitment to its diverse community. The funding for these projects stems from the city's Housing Stability Fund, which is supported by sales tax revenue authorized by state legislation.

These investments reflect Bellevue's ongoing efforts to implement its 2017 Affordable Housing Strategy and 2024 Comprehensive Plan Update. The council's actions highlight the urgent need for affordable housing solutions in the city, aiming to serve the most underserved populations.
