Bellevue is considering the introduction of paid street parking to tackle severe congestion in its urban core, particularly in downtown and neighboring districts like BelRed and Old Bellevue. According to recent data, on-street parking demand is exceedingly high, with many blocks completely occupied, prompting city officials to explore solutions. The proposed paid parking system aims to improve curb access for businesses and manage the overwhelming demand for parking spaces effectively. Currently, Bellevue does not charge for on-street parking, but the study seeks to identify best practices and technology for a potential rollout. The public is invited to provide input through an online survey or by attending a virtual open house scheduled for February 10, 2025.

This initiative is part of Bellevue’s broader Curb Management Plan, which was adopted in July 2023, highlighting the city’s commitment to addressing traffic-related challenges. Increased congestion and emissions have been noted from 2022 to 2024, with commercial vehicles encroaching into residential areas and delivery drivers often double parking. Engaging the community in this study is crucial for shaping a parking management strategy that meets the needs of residents and businesses alike.
