A BIG First Step for the Grand Connection

Bellevue, WALocal News

The Bellevue City Council has unanimously approved the draft Framework Plan for Sequence One of the Grand Connection, marking a significant milestone in the city’s development. This project proposes a non-motorized pathway that will connect Meydenbauer Bay to the Eastside Rail Corridor, enhancing accessibility and promoting a sustainable transportation option. The Framework serves as a guiding document rather than a definitive project list, outlining future opportunities and recommendations for city planners. In the upcoming year, the city intends to amend the Comprehensive Plan, update the Land Use Code, and create design guidelines to facilitate the project’s progression. While the plan has introduced three concepts regarding the crossing at I-405, details remain pending, leaving a multimillion-dollar question unaddressed for now.

The Bellevue Downtown Association is committed to tracking the project’s developments and voicing community support. BDA members interested in the Grand Connection process are encouraged to reach out for involvement. This initiative reflects the city’s dedication to enhancing urban connectivity and community engagement.
