New bistro seating and hundreds of yellow lanterns added to Downtown

Bellevue, WALocal News

Downtown Bellevue has transformed its public spaces by adding over 700 vibrant yellow lanterns and new outdoor bistro seating, perfectly timed for the upcoming Arts Fair Weekend. This initiative is part of a pilot placemaking project led by the Bellevue Downtown Association (BDA) and the City of Bellevue, focusing on the Grand Connection corridor. Mayor John Chelminiak highlighted that a lively public space enhances the environment for pedestrians, office tenants, retailers, and restaurants, promoting a win-win scenario for all involved. The solar-powered lanterns illuminate the corridor at night, creating an inviting atmosphere that stretches from Lincoln Square to the Bellevue Transit Center. As the Grand Connection vision develops, it will connect significant locations, including Meydenbauer Bay Park and the future Bellevue Downtown Link Light Rail station.

The project signifies a commitment to enhancing community engagement and connectivity as downtown Bellevue continues to grow. Partnerships with local property owners and businesses have been pivotal in this initiative, showcasing a collaborative approach to urban development.
