Music Works Northwest Tunes a Brand New Beat

Bellevue, WALocal News

Music Works Northwest has been an integral part of Bellevue's musical fabric for over 40 years, dedicated to fostering a vibrant music education community. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the nonprofit has successfully transitioned to online instruction, allowing around 250 students to continue their music education safely. Bruce Staelens, the New School of Jazz Program Manager, noted that maintaining music lessons has provided students with something to look forward to during uncertain times. To enhance engagement, the organization has bolstered its social media presence, sharing performances and instructional videos to keep students connected. Additionally, Music Works Northwest remains committed to inclusive education, offering scholarships and tuition assistance to ensure that all community members have access to music programs.

The organization has also developed innovative teaching methods, such as facilitating remote duet recordings, to adapt to the challenges of social distancing. Students have responded positively to these changes, expressing growth in their individual skills and a strengthened sense of camaraderie with their peers. Music Works Northwest continues to enrich the Bellevue community through its diverse offerings, even in a virtual landscape.
