Whats Happening With Downtown Park?

Bellevue, WALocal News

Downtown Park in Bellevue is set to undergo a transformative expansion project focused on its northeast corner, which has been largely underutilized. The City of Bellevue's Parks & Community Services department aims to create a more inviting entrance that promotes accessibility and enhances pedestrian flow. Among the project's highlights are a new pedestrian plaza, improved lighting, aquatic features, and public art installations curated by acclaimed architectural artist Marc Fornes. Although construction was initially scheduled to conclude by January 2021, the onset of the coronavirus pandemic has caused delays, pushing the expected completion date to spring 2021. Ken Kroeger, the City of Bellevue Project Manager, has noted the diligent efforts of the lead contractor, Ohno Touchdown JV, to maintain progress while adhering to safety protocols.

This expansion not only aims to beautify the park but also to foster community engagement and provide a space for relaxation and social activities. The project aligns with the city's ongoing commitment to enhancing public spaces during a time when outdoor areas are vital for community well-being. As the park remains open, residents and visitors are encouraged to explore its features while awaiting the completion of the enhancements.
