He(ART) of Bellevue Ashmita Gulati

Bellevue, WALocal News

Ashmita Gulati, an artist based in Bellevue, creates contemporary and abstract art that draws on her personal and cultural experiences. Originally from Mumbai and trained at the Sir J. J. Institute of Applied Arts, she relocated to the United States to gain a fresh perspective on her artistic journey. Gulati believes that artists are shaped by their environments, stating, “My travels have informed and shaped much of what I do.

” Her approach to art involves a series of experiments with color and texture, often using inexpensive tools from hardware and kitchen stores. The COVID-19 pandemic served as a catalyst for her latest series, “It’s Still a Wonderful World,” which reflects her thoughts and feelings during the lockdown. Gulati's work encourages viewers to engage with abstract concepts on a subconscious level, stripping away conventional narratives. She will be showcasing her art at the Bellevue Downtown Arts Market from September 4-6, inviting the community to connect with local artists. With a commitment to expressing herself through her art, Gulati captures the essence of her emotional landscape, making her work both relevant and impactful.
