A Life-Saving Match Residence Inn Finds Opportunity with Traveling Nurses

Bellevue, WALocal News

In response to the severe downturn in hotel occupancy during the pandemic, Residence Inn in Downtown Bellevue launched a traveling nurse program to provide affordable and flexible housing options for healthcare workers. Kate Hudson, the director of sales and marketing, recognized the need for safe accommodations for traveling nurses who played a vital role in the medical response to the crisis. The hotel offers spacious, apartment-like rooms complete with fully equipped kitchens, which cater perfectly to those in need of long-term stays. Since March 2020, the program has seen participation from up to 40 traveling nurses, leading to nearly 8,000 overnight stays that were essential for the hotel's survival. Hudson noted that the support from these nurses was instrumental in keeping the business afloat and providing job security for the staff.

Furthermore, the hotel has engaged in creative partnerships, such as a collaboration with Bake’s Place Bar & Bistro to offer discounts, enhancing local connectivity and tourism. Looking ahead, Hudson expresses excitement for the revival of events in Downtown Bellevue and the upcoming East Link light rail, which will improve accessibility to the area. Through these initiatives, Residence Inn aims to continue supporting the community and adapting to the evolving landscape.
