BDA Board Endorses Parks Levy Lift on November Ballot

Bellevue, WALocal News

The BDA Board of Directors has unanimously voted to endorse the November 8 ballot proposition to lift the levy lid for parks and open spaces in Bellevue. If approved, this measure will extend the existing levy and generate substantial revenue for necessary park enhancements and maintenance, in line with the updated Parks and Open Space Plan. Proposed rates of $0. 15 per $1,000 assessed value will be allocated for capital improvements, while $0. 05 will be designated for annual maintenance and operations.

Overall, the levy lift is projected to generate approximately $144 million over a nine-year period. Two major projects highlighted for funding include the Meydenbauer Bay Park Phase 2, crucial for completing the Grand Connection access, and Ashwood Park, recognized as an underutilized space in need of improvements. The BDA Board asserts that these investments are essential for maintaining accessible and well-kept public open spaces to meet the demands of Bellevue's growth. This flexible funding strategy is considered instrumental in supporting the city’s ongoing development plans, representing a proactive approach to enhancing the community's quality of life through improved parks and recreational spaces.
